Friday, October 09, 2009:
US-based handset maker Motorola is busy focussing on Google's Android these days, so much so that it has quit the LiMo Foundation, an industry consortium dedicated to creating the open, hardware-independent, Linux-based operating system for mobile devices. Motorola is one of the founder members of this consortium, which was founded in January 2007.
Christy Wyatt, vice president, software applications and ecosystems, Motorola, mentioned on Tuesday that she is no longer on the board of the LiMo Foundation, as reported by PC World.

The company has decided to remain as an associate member and retain an active role as a contributing member.
As a result, Motorola is now no longer listed as a founder member on the LiMo website; it is also now ineligible to run for a board seat.
In 2010, the company plans to release a host of mobile phones that will use Google’s Android OS. It recently dropped Windows Mobile 6.5 in order to devote itself to Android. Android is a Linux-based operating system which is not part of the LiMo foundation.
According to electronista, Motorola "feels that the Android platform gives it a richer, more consistent foundation with strong support for the ecosystem and developer community."

| Three operating systems are in serious competition. We have Google's Android, the Symbian and Microsoft's winmo 6.5. Winmo 6.5 has made a hard impact in this segment, it’s a great update from its predecessor. Combined with the HTC touch Pro 2 and HTC touch Diamond, this phone is a sure buy on my list. |
