Tuesday, November 10, 2009:
Nokia has announced a charger exchange programme, as part of which it is replacing 14 million chargers for its Nokia 7210 handsets. Consumers owning Nokia-branded chargers with model number AC 3E bought along with Nokia 7210 between 15 June 2009 and 9 August 2009 can exchange them for free replacements.

|
In India, this charger exchange programme is limited to charger model AC-3E only, manufactured between 15 June and 9 August 2009, for the Nokia 7210. This, as per Nokia, does not impact the usage or safety of the Nokia phone in any manner.
During a routine quality control process, Nokia said it identified a potential product quality issue with certain chargers manufactured by China’s BYD Co., one of its third-party suppliers. The plastic covers of the affected chargers could come loose and separate, exposing the charger's internal components and potentially posing an electrical shock hazard if certain internal components are touched while the charger is plugged into a live socket.
However, Nokia said it was not aware of any incidents or injuries related to these chargers. Nokia explained, "Only a limited number of chargers of certain model types manufactured by a single third-party supplier during a specific time period are within the scope of the exchange programme. They are the AC-3E and AC-3U models, manufactured between 15 June 2009 and 9 August 2009; and the AC-4U model, manufactured between 13 April 2009 and 25 October 2009." If you have one of the affected chargers, Nokia recommends you to stop using it and exchange it for a free replacement. You can find out if yours is eligible for replacement from the Nokia charger exchange website or your local Nokia website.
A. A 3-Step SMS Solution:
Step-1: Every charger has a 27 digit code printed on it. Consumers are requested to key in (CHG) SPACE (the 27 digit in the serial number of the charger). Eg. CHG 4956279274091613752;0675370 Step-2: Send this to 55555. Step-3: Consumers will then get a reply from Nokia via SMS that will inform them whether their charger is included in this exchange programme.
2. Starting 10 November 2009, consumers can also walk into any Nokia Care Centre or any Nokia Priority Dealership store (NPDs) across the country and check if their chargers are a part of this exchange programme.
B. Exchanging Identified Chargers:
1. Visit the nearest Nokia Care Centre: Replacement chargers are available at the 700+ exclusive Nokia Care Centres only across the country starting 10 November 2009.
For more information on Nokia Care Centres, consumers can call 30303838 with the Local STD code of the city that he/she is dialling from.
2. Consumers can also fill in their address and contact details online on http://chargerexchange.nokia.com. Replacement chargers would then be couriered to the consumers.
