Google Vs China: The Endgame Nears  
 
Chinese firms who have invested in Google's advertising space have become raucous about their demands for redressal.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010:  As a prelude to its endgame on Chinese territory, Chinese firms who indulge in advertising on Google search pages have asked the Internet giant to make its stand clear and said they will demand compensation if it shuts its Chinese portal. This ultimatum from Chinese online advertising sales companies follows in the wake of Google's announcement that it may soon close Google.cn.





The standoff between Google and the Chinese authorities dates to more than two months after the Internet search portal complained of sophisticated hacking attacks from inside China and said it might drop plans to offer the Chinese a censored search engine, reports Reuters. Since then Google and the Chinese have not publicly aired their differences.

And now a letter allegedly from 27 Google-authorised sales representative firms says the wait has now become endless, their business has suffered, and employees are becoming uncertain about their prospects. The companies have listed their demands for redressal for employees and clients which could exacerbate the economic and political pressures on Google should it pull the plug on its Chinese operations.

The letter clearly spells out its demands: that Google make itself clear on when customers' pre-payments for advertising will be returned to them, and how the companies which have invested in Google will be compensated for their losses.
