Thursday, September 02, 2010:
Another hour, another tablet. This time it is the much anticipated Galaxy Tab, Samsung's latest addition to its Galaxy series. The Android-powered tablet made its very first appearance at 2010 IFA in Berlin just couple of hours back. Last week, we reported that Samsung had released a teaser video of the Galaxy Tab. The video confirmed many rumors surrounding the device: The 17.8-cm (7") display will run Android Froyo and support Adobe Flash content, with an optimised version of Samsung's TouchWiz software and a 3.2-megapixel camera supporting video chat.
|
|
Here are some specs for your consideration: * The 17.8-cm display is a TFT-LCD display with a 1024-by-600-pixel resolution. * A 3.2-megapixel back-facing camera, and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for making video calls. * Powered by a Cortex A8 1GHz processor, tied to a PowerVR SGX540 graphics processor. * A wide range of multimedia file types supported and can play back HD video content. * Two variants will be available: 16GB and a 32GB of internal memory. * External memory slot is expandable up to 32 GB. * Both 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity supported. * Battery life is rated at 7 hours of continuous video playback.
The Galaxy Tab has an upper hand over all other Android tablets for the only reason that it is Google certified. A Google certification enables users to access the ever-expanding Android market for games and apps. Along with this, users will also be welcomed with Samsung's pet projects -- the MusicHub, the ReaderHub and the MediaHub. The MediaHub is an online TV and movie store for renting and buying video, while the ReaderHub is for buying and reading e-books and the MusicHub for purchasing music.
Android-based tablets have been cropping up from all across the globe, but the Galaxy Tab looks the most intriguing. A comparison to the iPad is definitely on the cards. But based on its specs, the Galaxy Tab looks like a worthy challenger to the iPad.
