Friday, September 03, 2010:
Twitter CEO Evan Williams has come out with some neat statistics in his blogpost. He mentions Twitter has "more than 145 million registered users," and he number of registered OAuth applications is now at almost 300,000." Williams also says this number of registered apps has tripled since their Chirp conference, which was only this past April. At Chirp, the Twitter developer conference, Williams had talked about how "Twitter is too hard" and what they are doing to address that. One major difficulty that he highlights is getting "Twitter on your phone"

|
As they say, 'It is a problem, only if there is a solution," Williams mentioned that they are doing their best to overcome the problem of getting users to use Twitter through their phone. He added, "For this reason, we acquired Tweetie and turned it into Twitter for iPhone, complete with a new user sign-up experience." There is also the Twitter for BlackBerry and Twitter for Android, which launched a new version this week.
Some other highlights from Williams' post: * Total mobile users has jumped 62 per cent since mid-April * 16 per cent of all new users to Twitter start on mobile now * 46 per cent of active users make mobile a regular part of their Twitter experience * Twitter.com is still the primary mode of interaction for users at 78 per cent * Twitter's website for mobile, m.twitter.com is the second most-used Twitter interface at 14 per cent * SMS and Twitter for iPhone are tied at 8 per cent * Twitter for Blackberry follows suit at 7 per cent * TweetDeck and Echofon are tied at 3 per cent * Google Friend Connect and UberTwitter manage to be in the top 10 with 2 per cent each
What's shocking is Twitter for Android, an app Twitter worked hard on, is not even in the top 10.
Williams wraps up with a nice touch, by mentioning that Twitter’s Promoted Products has “exceeded our expectations.”
