Trend Micro has announced an anti-malware solution that leverages the new VMware vShield Endpoint. VMware vShield Endpoint strengthens security for virtual machines and their hosts while improving performance for virtual machine (VM) protection by offloading anti-malware processing to dedicated security-hardened virtual machines delivered by VMware partners. Integrating VMware vShield Endpoint APIs has enabled Trend Micro to create anti-malware protection for VMs without requiring a third-party agent to be installed on each VM, thereby reducing memory and CPU load.

As a result, Trend Micro is able to provide anti-malware protection for VMs, while minimising performance and operational impact.
Trend Micro delivers agentless anti-malware for VMware through Trend Micro Deep Security 7.5, which was also announced. Deep Security provides advanced protection for virtualised systems, and the latest version includes agentless anti-malware, together with IDS/IPS, Web application protection, firewall, integrity monitoring and log inspection modules.
Wael Mohamed, senior vice president of business development, Trend Micro, explained, “The availability of VMware vShield Endpoint is an important step forward for customers, as it has allowed us to deliver a solution that does not require the installation of security software onto each VM. This further conserves the performance and memory of the server, and allows enterprises to consolidate more VMs on each server.”
By leveraging VMware vShield Endpoint, Trend Micro is able to provide effective solutions to businesses that want the cost-savings and operating efficiencies of virtualisation, but need the protection from malware and other Web threats that may compromise their networks.
