Thursday, September 16, 2010 Novell India announced their new SUSE Linux Certification Programme in conjunction with leading academic institutes and training partners.

Novell announced the training cum certification programme in association with leading institutes including the Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Acharya Institute of Technology, Karunya University, Graphic Era University, Maharishi Arvind College of Engineering, BS Abdur Rahman University and Swami Keshvanand Institute of Technology, Management & Gramothan, Jaipur.

As an extension of the programme, Novell India has also partnered with recognized companies that include Object Arena Software Solutions, Train Edge Consulting, Software Technology Group (STG), Winways Systems Pvt. Ltd, Linux Learning Centre (LLC), NACE Solutions, Koening Solutions (P) Ltd, Everron Education Ltd, and Complete Open Source Solutions (COSS) as their training partners.

This certification programme will be offered by the institutes under two levels, viz. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Administration Course and the SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 Advanced Administration Course. The programme has been designed to provide an edge for students and professionals alike, with custom made programs that scale up their ‘Administration & Advanced administrative skills in SUSE Linux’.

The training partner companies are accomplished in ‘training & development’, and have been shortlisted based on their experience in Linux-based certification programmes. The trainers themselves require mandatory completion of both levels of certification i.e. NCLA and NCLP before they are authorized to undertake any training programmes. Now with the latest SUSE Linux certification programmes from Novell, they become a part of an elite club of exclusive choices in Linux training.

“Over the last two decades, Open Source has evolved into one of the fastest growing technologies catering to multiple and diverse industry segments. Being an industry leader, Novell India has launched this unique industry and academic initiative to benefit thousands of aspiring Linux Professionals, to cater to this growing demand” says Sandeep Menon, Country Manager, Novell India.

He further adds, “Through this initiative, Novell offers an industry-leading certification that is globally recognized and in demand. Today, a Novell certification is not only considered an achievement but also an opening to a host of opportunities for professionals seeking to become Linux experts. The training modules have been meticulously designed, keeping in mind the markets’ requirement for superior candidates who are up to date on current skills and trends in Linux-based technologies”,

For an IT professional interested in a long-term career in open source, one needs to be adept with latest skills and trends in this dynamic and fast evolving segment. Hence the SUSE Linux certification is considered one of the most credible and recognized approaches to equip students with the necessary skills today. Most jobs favour applicants with a certification from premium entities such as Novell for Linux Certification in their resumes. With this growing demand, Novell has initiated this effort to encourage industry and academia to partner in an effort to churn better qualified systems administrators, Java programmers, database administrators, solutions architects and data center managers.

At the end of the program, students will need to undergo two levels of global certification examination conducted at the Pearson VUE and Practicum centre. These institutions will now include this value added course to their regular curriculum with global certification which will attract better placement opportunities for students. The software totaling approximately US$ 2,000 is also being provided to the colleges by Novell.

The biggest advantage of this programme is that students will now have access to a global certification course at a discounted cost. A letter of completion awarded by Novell India on successful completion of the project will give the students the prerequisites to join the open source community. With Novell’s Certified Linux Training programmes, the students can also acquire eligibility to take up a real time project from Novell. This project will be offered to groups of four to six selected students on the basis of merit displayed during evaluation. The project, which will span over a period of 12 to 18 months, will be sent upstream for the acceptance of the project by the Open Source community. Needless to state, Novell will be mentoring the students on every step of their projects.
