Wednesday, February 23, 2011 Videocon Mobile Phones (Universal Digital Connect Limited) and Videocon Mobile Services, the next gen 2.75G EDGE GSM network today ushered in a telecom revolution by introducing the first-time ever innovative concept of ZERO paisa per second. With a stroke of brilliance and simplicity, Videocon Mobile Phones through its tie up with Videocon Mobile Services has delivered a double whammy by introducing for the first time in India an option of paying ONLY for your Mobile Handsets and get to talk on it for free for one year. By doing this, Videocon has dealt a terminating blow to petty tariff clashes in the Mobile Services sector thereby signaling the death of pay-per-second tariff regime in the telecom industry.

The new option heralds the birth of ZERO paisa per second in the telecom industry and unlocks unparallel value for the Indian customer. The innovative and economical option, which is enabled through a partnership with Videocon Mobile Services, presents customers a choice of seven latest Videocon Mobile Phones with varying form factors such as Touch, QWERTY or simple Candy Bar & wholesome features such as dual SIM, long battery, camera, music or basic FM and also 2 of the latest Android 2.1 powered handsets! And as if that was not enough, along with these phones they get plans ranging from 10 minutes of local calls per day to unlimited local calls for a year at ABSOLUTELY FREE, thus working out to an effective rate of Zero paisa per second.

Mr. Anshul Punhani, Head Marketing, Videocon Mobile Phones said, “At Videocon Mobile Phones we have always been looking at innovative methods of growing the market. We believe through this offer Videocon will free its customers of a double jeopardy by offering a powerful single value proposition. With this partnership, Videocon will bring unmatched value to customers by delivering best in class handsets and a world-class telecom service experience.”

Mr Pradeep Srivastava, Director (Operations), Videocon Mobile Services, speaking about the new independence offered by the ZERO paisa concept said, “I congratulate Videocon Mobile Phones for this innovative offering. This is yet another endeavor from Videocon to provide customers true value for money while extending the latest mobile technologies and refreshing services at never before competitive prices. This combination offered by Videocon Mobile Phones is an innovation inspired by simple facts and the core needs of the customers and is slated to transform the way India communicates. Customers in India till date have seen the telecom companies fighting it out over tariff and that has been the sole benefit that has accrued out of these wars. Zero paisa per second however, has opened a new world all together of connecting people by allowing them to build communities through mobile phones. Most of community building on social networks is presently on large screen formats and primarily through text. Zero paisa per second has given a new dimension by allowing people to build communities on mobile phones effectively using voice as a medium. What this most importantly allows is that it brings in a life into such networks as they are based on voice and hence emotions can now be expressed and conveyed more effectively.”

Videocon Mobile Phones is a fast emerging player and currently offers consumers a choice of handsets best suited for their needs. The brand campaign for Videocon Mobile Phones says, “V is the New Me”. This campaign is a metaphor for the restless nature of youth – change becoming the only constant. Mobile phone today is a part of one's inherent self and slowly it is becoming a complete world in itself.

Videocon Mobile Services has been continuously at the forefront of the telecom industry, innovating and continuously delivering upon the brand promise of true value and technologically differentiated services. Be it the tech-savvy new generation or the price conscious customer, Videocon Mobile Services has been delighting them all by addressing their most pressing needs and introducing several industry firsts. This is reflected in Videocon Mobile Services’ phenomenal growth. Since the past few months, Videocon has been growing faster than the average industry growth nationally. In a competitive telecom circle like Mumbai, Videocon Mobile Services has already clocked a subscriber base of 1.36 million (Cellular Operators Association of India release, December 2010).

Mr. Sunil Tandon, Chief Marketing Officer, Videocon Mobile Services said, “I congratulate Videocon Mobile Phones on this innovative offer. Pricing measures until now have been more reformist than radical. The zero paisa per second has effectively brought an end to the pay per second regime. A customer can now just pay for the handsets and enjoy free calling minutes for up to an year hence effectively offering the calls at zero paisa per second” He further added, “According to a recent report by TRAI, outgoing calls per subscriber per month have fallen 12.4% to 195 minutes in the June quarter from 223 minutes in the same period last year. Through the Zero paisa per second offer Videocon Mobile Phones is offering 300 minutes per month which means users can consume more than 50% additional minutes at no extra cost. This Zero will be the balancing factor in people’s lives full of negatives and positives. We believe the offer will be a game changer, setting the stage for ZERO paisa per second within the industry. The plan will also help grow the mobile services industry by permanently expanding average monthly air time usage from 240 minutes to at least 300 minutes per month and push Videocon up the figures further to the no. 1 position in India.”

Mr. Suneel Bandhu, COO – Mumbai, Videocon Mobile Services said, “Videocon Mobile Services is committed to catering to the needs of people of Mumbai. We have always delivered quality service and have been duly awarded by a phenomenal response from the customers. In our endeavour to serve our customers and deliver true value for them, we have tied up with Videocon Mobile Phones to deliver a revolutionary product to the subscribers in Mumbai. We are confident that the subscribers in Mumbai will make this a success story too.”
