Monday, November 14, 2011:
Not many days after the planning of Ubuntu 12.04, aka ‘Precise Pangolin’ began, its key details are already out. A number of details of this new version of Canonical's Linux distribution were discussed at the Ubuntu Developer Summit.
Some of the major changes to watch out for include:
1. Software Will Not Fit In CDs According to a report by The H, the developers of the operating system are looking to target a 750 MB ISO image in the new Ubuntu. It means that the new software will not fit on a CD anymore. User will need a USB drive or DVD to install Ubuntu 12.04.

2. Banshee Replaced With Rhythmbox? Many reports on Ubuntu 12.04 suggest that Rhythmbox may replace Banshee music player once again. Banshee media player has the disadvantage of poor maintenance and incompatibilities with ARM. However, no final decision has been taken in this regard so far.
3. Ubuntu Sans Mono? Some reports suggest that the new Ubuntu will come sans Mono. Mono is an open source implementation of Microsoft's .NET framework. Ubuntu Community Manager Jono Bacon informed through his blog post that the Banshee or the Mono decisions have to finalised yet.
4. 64-Bit by Default Ubuntu 12.04 will offer users the 64-bit version by default. The 32-bit version will also be available. A Phoronix report says that version 3.2 of the Linux kernel will serve as the heart of Ubuntu 12.04.
5. Experimental Wayland Preview Reports suggest that the new Ubuntu will depend on X.Org as its main server. Along with this, an experimental Wayland preview running an X11 server may also be available.
6. GNOME 3.4 Packages Along with a bulk of GNOME 3.2 packages, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS will come with GNOME 3.4 packages. These would include GTK+ 3.4, GNOME Games, GEdit, Gcalctool, Evince, and Yelp.
7. Reduced Startup Time The startup time of Ubuntu 12.04 will be reduced from 11 seconds to less than two seconds.
Ubuntu 12.04, to be launched in April 2012, will be a Long-Term Support (LTS) version of the operating system. It will come with support for a full five years.
