Phablet War: Micromax Canvas HD Vs Lava Xolo A1000

Micromax has a slight advantage over its rival brand with better specs and lower pricing.

The smartphone segment in India has reached a new level in 2013. While earlier, we used to see brands competing on the price-front, this year we have already seen the trend shifting towards devices with top-end specs made available at a rather affordable price range.

Company called WickedLeak had recently launched its Wammy Titan phablet device in the country at sub Rs 15,000 and similarly brands like Micromax, Lava have followed suit and introduced their own highly powered products with big display but priced fairly reasonable.

Karbonn is also another brand, which had launched its first quad-core based smartphone in the country at Rs 10,990 but that one came with a 11.4-cm (4.5-inch) display rather than the standard phablet size of 12.7-cm (5-inch).

Micromax A116 Canvas HD comes with a 12.7-cm (5-inch) IPS display with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels and runs Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean. The A116 Canvas HD is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor and 1 GB RAM. On the camera front, the device has an 8 MP rear and VGA front-facing camera. The A116 Canvas has an internal storage capacity of 4 GB, which is expandable up to 32 GB via microSD. The smartphone offers connectivity options like 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, USB etc. Micromax has loaded its latest flagship smartphone with a 2,100 mAh battery.

On the other hand, Xolo A1000, sports a 12.7-cm (5-inch) display and runs Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean. The device comes powered by a 1 GHz dual-core Mediatek processor and 1 GB RAM. A1000 comes with an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash and front-facing VGA camera for video chats. It comes powered with a 2,100 mAh battery. On the memory front, the device will have 4 GB internal storage capacity, which can be expanded to 32 GB via Micro SD card. Here is a quick look at how these device compare:

While there is not much to differentiate between both the devices, Micromax is clearly offering a better product with a quad-core processor and at  a lesser price than Xolo A1000. Probably Lava could have priced it slightly lower, just to keep things interesting.
