Friday, March 08, 2013 Earlier Sony Mobiles had announced that only certain Xperia smartphones will be viable for further Android updates, and Xperia Tipo, the entry-level phone was excluded from the said list.

But apparently, the Japan-based mobile company has had a change of mind and is readying its Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean update for Xperia Tipo, which will be hitting the Indian market also, as per a Mobile Indian report.

“Sony Xperia Tipo dual has surpassed our sales expectation and is a big hit for us, we want to make it even better with the new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in about a month's time,” a Sony official was quoted saying in the report.

The report also states that with an Android Jelly Bean update, the phone will have access to features like Sony Music app and Sony Liv Mobile TV applications, that come bundled with high-end Xperia devices.

Xperia Tipo competes with Samsung Galaxy Chat in the price segment, that runs Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich. But with an Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean update under works, Xperia Tipo will become an exciting proposition for all those looking for an entry-level branded device.

This budget phone from Sony runs Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and features a 8.1-cm (3.2-inch) HVGA touchscreen. It sports 3.2 MP rear camera, 512 MB RAM, 2.5 GB internal storage and 800 MHz processor. The phone is available in both single and dual-SIM variant, with price starting from Rs 8,490 in the country.
