Kimishima Takes Over As Nintendo Of America CEO

As the date of the release of the Wii draws closer, Nintendo has appointed a new chairman and president of its US operations.

Redmond, Washington: In what is being seen as laying the ground for the launch of its Wii console, Nintendo of America has shuffled its executive pack. Current president Tatsumi Kimishima has been named chairman of the board and chief executive officer, Reggie Fils-Aime has been promoted to president and chief operating officer, while Mike Fukuda, has been promoted to executive vice president of business development.

"Around the world, Nintendo DS has been steadily drawing more people into the video game category," said Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo Co. "With the upcoming introduction of Wii, along with the strength of this new leadership team and strong executives already in place, Nintendo will continue to dramatically change the way consumers of all ages interact with their video game console on a daily basis."
Fukuda is the longest serving Nintendo employee of the three, having joined the company in 1994 as director of planning. Kimishima joined Nintendo Japan in 2000 and served as chief financial officer of The Pokémon Company in 2000 and president of Pokémon USA Inc. in 2001, before being appointed president of Nintendo of America in 2002. Fils-Aime, on the other hand, joined Nintendo of America in December 2003, after serving as senior vice president of marketing at VH1.
All three men could well play a crucial role in determining whether Nintendo will be able to match the likes of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in the US market.
