Tuesday, April 29, 2014 The Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-IN), in its latest advisory has shockingly revealed that a potential vulnerability exists in certain versions of the Adobe Reader software commonly used for reading and editing tasks on PDF files, in Android devices. The vulnerability effects the Adobe Reader mobile version of "11.1.3 and prior" in Android phones and could compromise on users' personal data.

"A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by creating a specially-crafted content which, when executed by the target user, would lead to execution of arbitrary code on the target user's system leading to compromise of the documents in the reader (Adobe Reader) and SD (secure digital) card files. This vulnerability exists in Adobe Reader due to improper restrictions to certain JavaScript interfaces from ARJavaScript, ARCloudPrintActivity, ARCreatePDFWebView classes," says the CERT-IN advisory. As such, users have been advised to upgrade their respective softwares to the 11.2 version as early as possible.

Earlier, CERT-IN had revealed that a new virus of the deadly Trojan family could lead to complete compromise of infected Android devices, igniting fresh debate over the state of affairs in such devices with respect to security. ‘Dendroid’ virus is the latest threat looming over India, where Android has been widely embraced by one and all as a leading operating system. Once activated, Dendroid could change the command and control server of an Android phone and effectively intercept private SMSes coming in or going out.
