iPod has a reason to smile, as one of its competitor -- though DJ Ditty never presented serious competition -- is out of business.

Friday, August 25, 2006:
Dell has sealed the fate of its ambitious MP3 player, DJ Ditty, by abandoning the product. The MP3 player couldn't survive a year of launch. It was launched in September last year and should be ideally celebrating its anniversary next month -- premature deaths do happen.
|
|
Dell has stopped selling the player on its website and is quitting the further development of its own music players. Dell catalogue doesn't feature Ditty anymore. However, while the company is ceasing the development of its own MP3 player, it will continue to promiote and sell third-party MP3 players like Creative Zen.
When launched, there was much hype that iPod had a reason to shiver, but supporting the Microsoft's Windows Media Audio format, it was Ditty who couldn't even walk on its legs. Flash-based Ditty never received good reviews.
