Announcing this, Sibal said that the Government would be investing to the tune of Rs 10 billion in nano-science and nanotechnology over the next five years. Of this, Rs 1.8 billion would be spent during the current fiscal to set up around seven to eight such facilities in the country.
The proposed international nano-science centre would also be open to NRI scientists and technologists who can pursue research here and collaborate with various other institutes for developing nano products.
Earlier, the minister inaugurated the country's first nano lab at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) Bangalore. The nano lab would focus on the energy sector to develop devices like super capacitors for batteries and photo voltaic cells to tap solar energy optimally.
Sibal also informed that the Government is keen on public-private partnerships in research on photo-voltaic cells.
