Tesco HSC Launches Retail Certification Programme

Wednesday, September 27, 2006: New Delhi: Tesco Hindustan Service Centre (HSC), the global services arm of Tesco, has launched 'Tesco Retail Certification programme'. The programme is aimed at developing the knowledge of contemporary retail management issues among the employees of Tesco HSC. The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) will provide academic input and the Integrated Retail Management Consulting (IRMC) will conduct workshops to reinforce the learning.

The retail certification programme, an industry-academia partnership in retailing, will provide an understanding of how the retail industry functions through the application of retailing theory and research. The programme is spread over a period of three months, and covers modules, such as enterprise management, supply chain management, marketing, customer service etc. The programme also includes interactive sessions, workshops and guest speakers.

"Our vision is to establish Tesco HSC as a retail knowledge repository for the Tesco group. It is therefore crucial to have a workforce that both understands and appreciates the retail business. We are confident that this programme will help us in developing a pool of employees who will be trained to have an in-depth retail knowledge," said Meena Ganesh, CEO, Tesco HSC.

The participants of the programme comprise Tesco HSC employees from its IT services, business services and enabling services.

Speaking on the programme, Dr Ashis Mishra, IIM-B, said, “This is one of the few programmes of its kind in India and will hopefully lead to greater instances of industry-academia partnerships to address talent management challenges that face the country."
