Linux Belongs To Microsoft!

The crux of the matter is: Microsoft not only feels but also claims intellectual rights on open source. And the only language that Microsoft understands the best is not C++ but 'money'.

The world belongs to me. Seems to be a hard statement but it fits the profile of Microsoft. With millions and millions of patents registered with the company, you never know if you are actually infringing the company's intellectual property right. For that matter, even human skin is patented by Microsoft! And in this case, Linux may prove to be the cash-cow for Microsoft.
Few weeks ago, when Microsoft signed a deal with Novell, everybody was wondering about what was going on in Microsoft's mind. Only this was apparent, the move was not in favour of Linux. Microsoft took its time to let things boil and then Steve Ballmer gave a hint of Microsoft's intentions. The company feels that most of the Linux code belongs to Microsoft and those who are using open source Linux are liable to be charged, or sued, for using MS's intellectual property. This has simply become for Linux world A Nightmare on Elm Street.
The deal that Microsoft signed with Novell may on surface say that it is in order to allow users to use either company's intellectual properties. While Novell will be paying MS $40 million, Microsoft has paid $440 million to Novell. But What Lies Beneath the surface could be little eerie. Through this subtle move, Microsoft has sent a signal and got validation from one of the Linux players that Microsoft has a share in open source Linux and it wants it 'crystal clear': show me the money. This was made very very clear when Ballmer said, "We should get the appropriate economic return for our shareholders from our innovation."
Microsoft tried to get other Linux players to sign similar deals, but they refused. But the deal with Novell allows Microsoft to sue users who are using open source which uses code patented by Microsoft.

Screw Bill Gates and Microsoft!!!
Can't they just leave people alone.
They are making more money than they should be on there over priced software. I paid their price and bought their software, but with all their new products and end of life support I had to buy more. I also use Linux and I be Damned if I pay microsoft a damn dime for something that was not designed by or made by them. Linux IS and will ALWAYS be a FREE open source software. Linux does not and will never belong to microsoft!!! You can't sell something that doesn't belong to you. Hey Bill... It's against the law!!! |

No. The deal says Microsoft will *not* sue Novell-SuSE Linux users; Patent Law allows Microsoft to sue anyone it believes is violating its patents. However, in real life a convicted monopolist may have a hard time avoiding more legal troubles if it attempts to use patents to maintain a monopoly position that has already been ruled unlawful. They are trying to achieve through marketing what they can not hope to win in the courtroom. |

| Novell can't sell what it does not own. Novell does not own (all) the copyrights to the kernel, so how could they possibly sell it. This patent deal is bad news, but only in America. American Patents are not enforceable outside of America. |

| This guy doesn't understand GPL. Once you release your codes under GPL, any
one can release the codes under the same GPL. Where is the money? |

It's only FUD. Balmer and Gates are scared of Linux, and they are trying to scare people and companies into not using it.
Microsoft is like a buggy whip company in the early 1900's, soon to be extinct.
