German SMEs Keen On JV With India

Kolkata: Recently, a 21-member business delegation from State of Saarland (Germany), led by its minister of Economics and Labour, Dr Hanspeter Georgi, was in the city to eye for business collaboration with their Indian counterparts. The delegates were small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) who felt that India, with "unshakable flair for innovation and outstanding traditions of culture and democracy", will play a pivotal role in enhancing far beyond the Asian continent.

Talking to media, Dr Georgi said, “Saarland though is one of the small states in Germany with a population of around 1 million, but its geographical location holds potential for doing business in Europe.” He added, “I feel West Bengal is growing leaps and bounds in technologies in areas such as automobile, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, nanotechnology, biotechnology, food processing machinery and equipment. It is also developing fast in areas such as IT and ITES. So we look forward to work closely.”
The team met senior government officials and local entrepreneurs to identify areas of cooperation where SMEs of the German state and West Bengal can work together.
Dr Georgi also met the West Bengal chief minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, and the minister of Commerce and Industry, Nirupam Sen. Dr Georgi said, “SMEs in Saarland are eager to have joint ventures in automobiles, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, construction, electronics and industries based on emerging technologies.”
