Here is your chance to ask the God of Linux questions storming your mind since ages.

What is the future of Linux and open source? What is the contribution of Indian community to the development of Linux kernel? There could be millions of such questions wandering in your mind. Last time, when I interacted with him, it was for a cover story for LFY magazine, and the questions were focussed on the issue of Linux infringing Microsoft patents. I asked questions like how secure/protected should a Linux user feel in the wake of these allegations?
|
|
And he replied, "Personally, I think it's just posturing. And if it results in more companies doing patent cross-licencing with Microsoft, I think Microsoft will be happy - that may well be the primary motivation. But I'm not a lawyer, nor do I intend to start playing one on TV (or in the tech press). So this is just my personal interpretation. The fact that Microsoft didn't actually name any of the patents makes me think it's just FUD and hot air."
There can be a lot many other questions that you may want to ask the God of Linux world, Linus. There are slim chances that your questions reach him and you get an answer coming directly from Linus. How about you thinking -- how could Linus inspire the Indian Linux/open source community to start increasing contributions to the development of Linux platform? There can be several such questions. What we have done is: we requested Linus to address some of the most persistent questions storming the minds of developers and he agreed.
So, here is a chance for you to submit your questions. The two broad topics that we would like to discuss with Linus are :
1. The technology road map of Linux (especially the kernel) 2. The role Indian techies can play in developing Linux and open source
So, if you have questions for Linus, feel free to ask. Just send in your question at efynm1@efyindia.com. If shortlisted, your question would reach Linus. The detailed interview will be published in LFY and subsequently released as a 'creative commons' document, since it will be a true community-driven initiative.
The deadline to submit questions is 13 July 2007. This is your chance. Come, grab it.
Linus is waiting!
