ELCINA & MCCIA Seminar Successfully Held  
 
Supported by EFY, the seminar on 'Emerging Imperatives for Electronics Hardware- E-Waste and New Materials for Eco-Friendly Products' focussed on the emerging threat of electronic waste.

Wednesday, July 18, 2007 ELCINA & MCCIA's Electronics wing recently organised a joint seminar on 'Emerging Imperatives for Electronics Hardware- E-Waste and New Materials for Eco-Friendly Products' and also a visit to the Jabil Circuit plant at Pune on 5 July 2007. The event was supported by EFY and was attended by about 70 delegates at Central Park Hotel, Pune. Followed by a series of seminars on RoHS compliance and lead free manufacturing, the main objective of the seminar was to educate and empower the Indian industry to adhere to global standards and access the opportunities offered by the electronics industry.





The seminar focused on the emerging threat of electronic waste, its causes and possible remedies followed by a presentation on eco-friendly PCB manufacturing and touched upon nanotechnology and its role in development of new materials for electronics. Pramod Chaudhari, managing director, Praj Industries, was the chief guest at the seminar.

During her presentation, P. Bineesha, chief environmental advisor, HAWA, Bengaluru, shared her insights about the present status of legislation in the country and abroad and its implications for producers/manufacturers from electronic industries.

Casey Ng, regional technology manager (electronics), Henkel, South-East Asia, Singapore, focussed on Henkel's products which are for the electronics and electrical industry and includes solder paste, adhesives and sealants.

K. Vijaymohanan, scientist, National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, discussed the impact of nanotechnology on materials research citing specific examples of the applications of electronic materials, intelligent materials and materials for electrochemical energy storage.
