Tuesday, October 30, 2007:
LUG-Indore celebrates software freedom by organising an annual Linux and OSS event. This year, the group is organising one such technical fest, on 2 November 2007, at DAVV Auditorium, Indore. This event is organised to affirm, promote and encourage the development of free and open source software. This event is an opportunity to bring together people and create awareness related to OSS and Linux.
|
|
The prime objective of LinuxIndore 2007 is to create awareness and build the environment in Indore for sustained growth and development of FOSS; to bring people and organisations together on a common platform; to bring students and programmers together and give them a common platform to work together for the betterment of the society; to create awareness about job prospects and career options in OSS world; and to make educational institutes give some serious thoughts to initiate Linux and OSS activities in their premises, like making Linux labs and encouraging students to participate in OSS projects.
Linux Users Group – Indore (LUG-Indore), a non-commercial, non-government organisation, sports the true spirit of Linux and open source technology and philosophy, and works for the promotion of Linux and open source softwares, and runs a mailing list (http://groups.google.com/group/lug-indore) to promote Linux and open source softwares in academia and corporate. LUG-Indore organises seminars, talks and workshops in various technical institutes on Linux and OSS, to make students and the technical community aware of these technologies.
The group promotes the inclusion of open standards and open source solutions where applicable. The LUG is dedicated to educating software professionals of the choices that are available in the open source community. It also encourages the use and participation in open source projects. The group says it's not an anti-commercial software. However, it is against the illusion that commercial software is always a better choice.
