Ikanos To Support SOFTBANK's FTTR Roll-Out In Japan

SOFTBANK BB Corp. has appointed Ikanos as the exclusive provider of multi-mode VDSL2 central office (CO) and customer premises equipment (CPE) chipsets to power its new, Fiber to the Remote (FTTR) deployment in Japan. SOFTBANK BB picked Ikanos' Fx10050-5 CO and Fx10050S-5 CPE chipsets, which are designed to deliver the highest throughput and density with the lowest power consumption per port.
The Ikanos chipsets will be used in CO and CPE platforms and will reportedly offer significantly higher bandwidth than currently deployed ADSLx technologies, thus facilitating future deployment of revenue-enhancing services such as triple play.

The new platforms are also backward compatible with deployed VDSL chipsets, thus facilitating a smoother infrastructure upgrade, the company said.
