TEMA Hosts 2nd National Telecom Awards 2008

The union minister for communications and IT presented the awards in the category of exports, manufacturing, innovation, R&D etc.

On the occassion of World Telecom and Information Society Day, Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association (TEMA) organided the second TEMA National Telecom Awards for manufacturing at New Delhi. The awards were presented in the category of exports, manufacturing, innovation, R&D etc. Thiru A Raja, union minister for communications and IT, was present there to confer the awards.

"TEMA has been playing an active role in the development of telecom sector," said Raja. He further urged TEMA to come out with suitable measures to incentivise private telecom operators to encourage indigenously manufactured equipments.
Raja also quoted Rs 26,000 crores as the current value of indigenous manufacturing order in the country and expressed his pleasure over the figure.
The awardees who won various awards include; Prasha Technologies Limited, HBL power systems limited, Sterlite Optical Technologies Limited, Coral Telecom Limited, Telecommunications Consultants India Limited, Tejas Networks India Limited, Sabic Innovative Plastics, Himachal Exicom Communications Limited, Ericsson India Pvt Limited, Teracom Limited, Utstarcom India Telecom Pvt Ltd, Nokia Siemens Networks Pvt Ltd, Motorola India Pvt Ltd, Xcel Telecom Limited, TATA Teleservices Limited, BSNL, GTL Limited, and Shyam Telelink Limited. Rajendra Prabhu was given the lifetime achievement award for journalism in telecom.
Congratulating the awardees, Thiru Raja said, "TEMA needs to be complimented on its initiative for awards in telecom. I congratulate each and every company who have got the awards today and wish them all the best."
