Thursday, August 21, 2008 iPhone will be available in India from tomorrow onwards. Though the revolutionary device has found ways to enter India by other means, tomorrow you can get hold of a 'legal' iPhone 3G. But the Rs 31,000 question is, will you buy the device, if you get to know what all it can not do? Here are 9 reasons in favour and another 9 against iPhone which might help you decide should you go for iPhone 3G or not.

Here is the list of things that iPhone will not be able to do which even some basic phones can do:

1. There is no 3G in the country as yet so you may not get the full speed Internet this awesome devices offers.

2. Only 2 mega pixel camera, and no flash. It is not a power-packed camera device as there is no zoom feature available.
3. No video recording. All you can do is still shoots. Don't expect capturing some exciting activities happening around you.
4. You can not send MMS. No matter how funny or exciting an MMS be, you will not be able to send it through iPhone 3G.
5. You can not copy paste text. You cannot copy and delete the entire sentence or paragraph. Do word by word, manually.
6. You can not send SMS to multiple people. So, no bulk SMSing on Diwali or Holi, or even to inform others that you bought the iPhone.
7. No replaceable battery. Many users keep a back-up of battery which they replace when the cell phone runs out of battery as they may not get a recharge outlet. And eventually when its battery gives up, you will have to go to Apple and deposite your iPhone to get its battery replaced.
8. No second camera for video calls which is a standard feature on any 3G mobile phone.
9. Price tag -- 8GB for Rs 31,000 and 16GB for Rs 36,000 (approximately)

Here is the list of features which make iPhone one of the most revolutionary devices ever made:

1. The revolutionary interface. Multi touch screen which has changed the way you used to use mobile phones. No competitor has come closer to this feature.
2. 3.5 inch screen which would make watching a movie more fun then ever.
3. The original power of iPod -- an awesome personal music system which can blast your ears.
4. It supports Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, delivering push email, calendar, and contacts.
5. Email on iPhone offers a viewing experience unlike any other mobile device. With support for Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, PDF, JPEG, and now iWork, attachments can be viewed exactly as they were designed to be.
6. App Store allows you to find and buy applications for your need.
7. The ambient light sensor in iPhone automatically adjusts the brightness of the display according to lights around you.
8. When you lift iPhone to your ear, the proximity sensor immediately turns off the display to save power and prevent inadvertent touches.
9. When you rotate iPhone from portrait to landscape, its accelerometer detects the movement and changes the display accordingly.

Leaked reports: These are some of the reports that surfaced on some news websites:
Call Drops: There are reports that one of the chip used in iPhone is making the calls drop during conversation.
Killer Switch: A feature through which Apple can delete any application from your iPhone if the server finds its some malicious software which is not supposed to be there.

So, these are some of the critical points we considered important to help you make your decision, now it's your turn.
Do you want to buy iPhone 3G? Click on Yes or No and mention the reasons for your choice.

Do share your thoughts with others, and also see what others have to say. You can also add more 'have' and 'have not' features of iPhone!

If ever in the history of earth a company knows how to fool the people to pay from their nose just for the hype, then Apple stands incomparable. After fooling around with the mentally challenged people in US and Europe, it has now come to India in the search of some similar specie. It wants Indians to pay Rs.31,000 and Rs.36,000 for a piece of junk (iphone), which lacks features which even a basic mobile has, compared to their pricing in US market of Rs.8000 and 12000. But I have my doubts with their estimation of intelligence of Indians, who have continuously over a long period proved that they are no kids who would start clapping after being shown 1-2 glossy gimmicks. So let us now evaluate its features more closely.

1. You can only sync music and video through iTunes. Want to drag-and-drop content from your hard-drive? Would like to sync music from another store -- from Amazon, for example? You are out of luck.

2. You can only install apps through iTunes. You cannot install any application on your own unless you purchase it from Apple store and you would have to do it through itunes only. So after purchasing this expensive piece of crap, nothing comes for free, you need to purchase every application from Apple store. Never before has a cellphone maker slammed the door to an open development enviornment and received nothing but praise for doing so. Imagine Microsoft creating a gated software ecosystem and installing themselves as the gatekeeper. They would be eaten alive by the press. Apple gets a free pass.

3. You can only run one third-party application at a time. An instant messenger that runs in the background and collects messages while you are away? Not happening. (Even in a basic handset of Nokia it is possible to run many applications)

4. Limited Bluetooth use. The iPhone 3G has Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR but can you transfer files over Bluetooth? Does it support A2DP? Stereo Bluetooth? No on all counts. As of now, all you get from Bluetooth are headset voice calls, and that's it. (Even in a basic handset you can transfer any file which is not possible in this phone)

5. No copy-paste. You cannot do even a basic function of copy- paste which comes as a basic feature in any high end mobile.

6. No MMS. Leave alone sending videos you cannot even send pictures from this mobile as the MMS function which is a common feature in any mobile is absent in this crappy device.

7. No video recording. In the world of YouTube, the iPhone 3G does not offer video recording. Even a basic handset would has a video recording feature which is absent in this mobile.

8. A pathetic camera. The camera provided in this mobile is so basic that even a mobile with a price tag of Rs.10,000 would be better. With a pathetic resolution of 2 megapixel, no flash and no auto focus the camera on this mobile is effectively useless. In any other mobile with price range of around 25,000-30,000 one can easily find a mobile with 3.2 to 5 megapixel resolution, with autofocus, flash and other several advanced features which addresses the need of a portable camera.

9. No-detachable battery. A battery with a very low talk time and the battery cannot be replaced. So if your battery knocks off (which is the most common problem in mobiles) then you cannot replace it, you would need to replace the entire handset!!

10. No-extra slot for memory. There is no slot to add extra memory card!

11. Cannot play movies. Perhaps one of the biggest flaw of this device is that despite its big screen you cannot play movie files on it, as there is no player in it which can play files of that format. So all your movie collection which you would have desired to use on such type of phone becomes useless. This feature is widely available in other mobiles.

12. FM radio absent. Apple is so shameless that just to get more moeny out of your pockets to purchase music from their stores they have not put FM radio on the mobile, which is a basic feature of most of the mobiles and indispensible also

13. Apple deletes useful applications. Apple dictates which applications we can use. Nullriver's modem app was deleted by Apple from their store with no reason stated. This is an example of a very useful application through which you can use your mobile internet connection on your laptop.

14. Apple might not accept apps which might be detrimental to its own business. We won't hold our breath for competitive products to appear on the iPhone anytime soon.

15. Apple might not allow app vendors to open up their apps. The terms of the NDA that potential application developers for the iPhone need to sign, effectively restrict redistribution of the source. Applications can only be installed from a single source, iTunes, and open source applications and distribution is near impossible.

16. No 3G availability in India. With no service of 3G available in India, it is not possible to use its 3G feature (easily available in other mobiles) for a faster access to internet, which is being widely and wrongly publicized in India by Apple.

17. No voice command. For a touch-screen-only phone, voice controls would have been a huge plus for hands-free or one-handed control. This basic feature common is most of Nokia mobiles is absent in this.

18. Hardware locked to carriers. You cannot use any SIM card with this GSM device. How stupid is that? Hello monopolies, goodbye competition. Thanks to carrier lock-in when the phone launches in India, the iPhone 3G might not even enjoy 3G until months afterwards. How do you like them apples?

19. No TV output. There is no TV output slot which is very common in high end mobile through which you can connect your mobile to your TV and play its content.

There are several other flaws like the typing cannot be done in landscape, the disconnectivity problem faced by the present users etc Most of the above mentioned features mentioned above can be found in mobiles like Nokia N95, N96, Nokia Tube, Samsung i900 etc which have been either launched or about to get launched.

Even after knowing these many facts about the iphone if someone is still left with the desire to purchase it then that person surely deserves this piece of crap!! ;)

It has a 2MP camera which sucks big time,no copy paste, no bluetooth so u cant recieve/send pics/images/songs to or from your iphone, there is no 3G in India as yet, absolutely no video recording and no MMS.Plus you have to buy all music from itunes only and you can only get pictures/wallpapers/themes from the internet & you cant recieve a wallpaper or theme from anyones phone(as theres no bluetooth). To top it all, the highly ridiculous price tag (Rs 31,000 for 4GB and Rs 36,000 for 8GB) which basically means that you're getting ripped off by Apple as the iphone is worth Rs,12.000 in the US market(converted into INR).I would rather get an LG Viewty which has: 5MP cam,bluetooth,3inch display, touchscreen, the best & highest clarity for video recording in the mobile phone market,a special deal with youtube to let you upload videos directly form your phone to youtube,an advanced photo editor for your pictures,an excellent MP player and more. The only bad point about the LG Viewty KU990 is that the battery life is not that long.
