Monday, September 29, 2008 NTT DoCoMo and Research In Motion (RIM) are planning to launch the 3G/HSDPA BlackBerry Bold smartphone for customers in Japan in early 2009. Designed to give business professionals and power users exceptional functionality and performance, the BlackBerry Bold smartphone leverages DoCoMo's high-speed 3G and HSDPA networks to offer an exceptional mobile experience.

RIM said the new BlackBerry Bold smartphone is crafted from premium materials inside and out.

It offers powerful phone, e-mail, messaging, organiser and Web browsing applications, as well as access to a wide range of other mobile business and lifestyle applications. It features a newly designed QWERTY keyboard, built-in GPS and Wi-Fi and a set of multimedia capabilities including an optional 2 megapixel camera with video recording and an advanced media player for music, videos and pictures. It also includes the new BlackBerry Media Sync application, allowing customers to synchronise their iTunes digital music collections with the smartphone.

"The BlackBerry Bold smartphone empowers the most demanding users with capabilities that help them achieve all that they want - at work and in their personal lives. The elegant design houses a comprehensive suite of new features as well as the traditional functionality of the BlackBerry platform that users have come to know and love," said Ryuji Yamada, president and CEO, DoCoMo. "We're pleased to announce plans for DoCoMo to bring it to Japan."

"The new BlackBerry Bold smartphone exudes confidence and elegance and will enable mobile workers to stay connected effortlessly in their professional and personal lives," said Mike Lazaridis, president and co-CEO, Research In Motion. "We are proud to work with DoCoMo to introduce this powerful smartphone to Japanese customers."

The BlackBerry Bold will be showcased at CEATEC Japan 2008 from 30 September to 4 October 2008.
