Friday, November 14, 2008 "Our business philosophy is simple and straight forward, put customer first in everything we do and build success," commented Rich Beyer, chairman and chief executive officer, Freescale Semiconductor, while speaking at the opening ceremony of the fourth Freescale Technology Forum (FTF) in Bengaluru on 13 November 2008.

Beyer further said, "The demand for new applications today is being driven by three trends. Firstly, the Net effect fuelled by the emergence of user-created multimedia experience and growing bandwidth usage.

Secondly, the opportunity for electronics to improve health and safety; and thirdly, going green to conserve energy and protect the environment. At Freescale, we are uniquely positioned to leverage our leadership in automotive, networking and RF communications to address these trends. Freescale invests approximately 20 per cent of their revenue from sales in research and development."

"FTF is our endeavour to engage with the best minds in the ecosystem and showcase the latest in design," added Ganesh Guruswamy, vice president and country manager, Freescale Semiconductor India.

Stressing on the need for India to emerge as a major hub for embedded design, engineering and manufacturing services, A.M. Naik, chairman and managing director, Larsen and Toubro, emphasised, "Indian companies have shown that the total cost of development and time-to-market can be reduced without affecting product quality. Our time-tested engineering skills and project management expertise will contribute significantly in setting world-class benchmarks and surmounting the challenges posed by next-generation embedded systems. L&T and Freescale's strategic partnership combines proven capabilities in engineering and embedded domains with a view to address future challenges in these areas. Low-cost solutions affordable for farmers is the need of the day. India shines in cities and suffers in the rest."

Naik also assured that L&T will make intelligent products with embedded chips from Freescale Semiconductors.

During the opening session, BR Raghav, director, Innovlite (India) Pvt Ltd, unveiled a solid-state LED-powered lantern which will replace kerosene lamps in the rural areas. The lantern uses Freescale's MC908QG8.

Other attractions at FTF were NIBP (Non-invasive digital blood pressure monitor) for Indian market, which supports five Indian languages, is user-friendly and competitively priced. The device uses Freescale's flexi series - MC9S08QE128 and pressure sensor - MPXV5050.

The event includes in-depth technical training sessions organised into six tracks: automotive, consumer, industrial, mobile communications, networking and enabling technologies. FTF includes 100 hours of technical training with over 50 demonstrations from Freescale and its partners. FTF 2008 witnessed more than 650 participants.
