Friday, November 21, 2008 If you don't like your Google search results, you can customise them in the order that you prefer. Google users now have more control over their search experience, thanks to the newest addition to Google Web Search -- SearchWiki. With this new set of features, users can add, delete, re-sort or comment on search results for any query, to create a set of search results that's customised just for them.

Maybe you're an avid hiker and the trail map site you always go to is in the fourth or fifth position, and you want to move it to the top. Or perhaps it's not there at all and you'd like to add it. Or maybe you'd like to add some notes about what you found on that site, and why you thought it was useful. Starting today, you can do all this and tailor Google search results to best meet your needs.

SearchWiki is available to signed-in Google users. Just do a Web search when logged in to your Google account, and check out all the new tools that are available. The changes gets stored in your Google Account. If you are wondering if you are signed in, you can always check by noting if your username appears in the upper right-hand side of the page.

"It marks the first time that the Internet's most popular search engine has allowed its audience to alter the order of search results. Although the revisions won't affect Google's closely guarded formulas for ranking Web sites, the Mountain View-based company isn't ruling out eventually tapping into collective wisdom of the crowds to tweak its Internet-searching algorithms," ET said.

The changes you make only affect your own searches and do not impact the ranking for other users when they search on Google. But to see even more information about what other users think about a search, you can check out the 'All notes for this SearchWiki' link, which lets you see an aggregated view of which pages have been moved up, deleted or added, as well as the comments users have added for specific sites.
