Wednesday, November 26, 2008 Cisco will organise its first regional level networking skills competition tomorrow. Asia Pacific NetRiders 2008 will feature 45 participants representing 15 countries in the Asia Pacific region. These teams will compete for an all-expense paid trip to the United States as well as bragging rights for the next 12 months.

The unique feature about this year’s Asia Pacific competition is that it will be conducted virtually for the first time over Cisco TelePresence and Cisco WebEx.

Cisco TelePresence utilises the latest in video and audio techniques to establish real-time, live, in-person communications while Cisco WebEx provides on-demand collaboration applications that enable individuals, small businesses and enterprise organisations to leverage the Web as an efficient channel for interaction with their customers, partners and co-workers.

“We are really pleased to launch the SAARC Netriders skills competition in India because it demonstrates that the Networking Academy programme has taken root in the country. It’s fantastic to have teams from Bangladesh and India competing and reflects how Cisco Networking Academy has made a positive impact on people’s lives by encouraging career advancement, supporting the growth of the ICT industry and promoting sustainable economic development in the communities in which it operates. Asia Pacific NetRiders celebrates the talent that the Networking Academy community is fostering in the region,” said Lokesh Mehra, regional manager, Cisco Networking Academy.

Competing for the first SAARC NetRiders are student teams from American International University – Bangladesh, Dhaka, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore and Bengaluru campuses, Sona College of Engineering – Salem, Edutech NTTF – Bengaluru. The SAARC competition will involve three levels of testing. The first level is a multiple choice online examination, followed by an online test using Packet Tracer 5.0 (network configuration through computer simulation). The next and final level comprises troubleshooting a pre-configured network topology.
