ASUS Eee PC Is Forbes Asia’s Product Of The Year

By the end of the year, the company expects to have sold five million Eee PCs since its launch.

ASUS’ Eee PC has been named Forbes Asia’s Product of the Year for 2008, right after being crowned Stuff Magazine’s Gadget of the Year and Computer of the Year. In justifying its selection, Forbes hailed the Eee PC for 'its innovation and disruption' and added that the 'ultraportable' netbook had 'changed the global PC industry'.

Apart from receiving the Forbes Asia Product of the Year and Stuff Gadget of the Year/Computer of the Year honors, the Eee PC has also been named NBC.com’s Best Travel Gadget, Computer Shopper's Best Netbook of 2008, PC Pro's Hardware of the Year, PC World's Best Netbook and DIME magazine’s 2008 Trend Award Winner, amongst other accolades.
For its design and leading-edge innovation, the Eee PC has been conferred the Good Design Award (G-Mark) from Japan, the 2008 International CES Innovations Design and Engineering Award and the Taiwan Excellence Gold Award 2008. To date, the Eee PC has received 76 awards and more than 7,300 hits in the media, ASUS claimed. The Eee PC has also become the subject of a Harvard Business School case study.
Last year, the Eee PC was voted as 'The Most Wanted Christmas Gift' by Amazon.com. The trend, as per ASUS, is set to continue this year, with the availability of a wider selection of Eee PC models boasting different designs, specifications and prices that accommodate the diverse preferences and lifestyles of users all over the globe.
The Eee PC boasts a battery that provides up to eight hours of unplugged use. It is available with either Microsoft Windows XP or Linux operating systems.
