Yahoo! India R&D has announced 'Open Hack Day India' which will be held on 14 February and 15 February 2009, at The Taj Residency, Bengaluru. David Filo, co founder and chief, Yahoo! will kick off the second 'Open Hack Day India', the 5th Open Hack Day being organised by Yahoo! worldwide.

Hack Days started as an internal event that brought Yahoo! developers together and expanded into regular events in offices around the globe. The purpose of Open Hack Day is to celebrate, share, and bring developers from all over the country together to create cool new applications. To facilitate the same, Yahoo! opens its products, platforms and APIs (Application Programming Interface) so developers can build on Yahoo! UI libraries, product APIs, and more with their great ideas, explains the company.
Speaking about the event, Sharad Sharma, CEO, Yahoo! India R&D, said, "'Open' is a part of Yahoo!'s DNA that the company emphasises on. Open Hack Day celebrates innovation and demonstrates our commitment to open technologies and opportunities for developers. It is fun but also educational, practical and is a key element of Yahoo!'s ongoing strategy."
