HP ProCurve Launches Green-Certified 2910 Switch Series

HP ProCurve has launched the Green-Certified 2910 Switch Series to address the high-performance demands of bandwidth-intensive applications such as unified communications, Voice-over-IP (VoIP), network storage, video streaming as well as large databases. The new series offers the option of PoE+ (Power-over-Ethernet Plus) based on IEEE 802.3at standard. PoE+, according to the company, provides higher levels of power for devices such as 802.11n wireless access points, VoIP phones and new PTZ (Pan/Tilt/Zoom) security cameras.

The HP ProCurve 2910 eco-friendly switches have received the Miercom Certified Green Distinction Award. They are designed to reduce power usage and offer 23 per cent energy cost savings when compared to the industry average, based on typical usage cost, the company said.
The new 2910 series features four gigabit enterprise-class switches with 10 gigabit (10G) options and is ideal for deployment at converged enterprise edge, data centre top-of-rack and remote branch offices. The 10G ports are scalable and flexible (SFP+ and/or CX4) allowing for resilient server/uplink connectivity. HP ProCurve has announced three 10G modules for the 24-port 2910 switches.
The new switches are aligned with HP ProCurve's Adaptive Networks vision, enabling customers to adapt to changing needs of applications, users and the organisations. They are standards-based and offer interoperability in multi-vendor network environments.
The HP ProCurve 2910 Series include HP ProCurve 2910al-24G, HP ProCurve 2910al-48G, HP ProCurve 2910al-24G-PoE+ and HP ProCurve 2910al-48G-PoE+.
The ProCurve 2910al-24G Switch is a managed switch with 24 10/100/1000 ports along with four dual personality gigabit ports and four optional 10G ports (CX4/SFP+). The ProCurve 2910al-48G Switch is a managed switch with 48 10/100/1000 ports along with four dual personality gigabit ports and four optional 10G ports (CX4/SFP+).
The ProCurve 2910al-24G-PoE+ Switch is a managed switch with 24 10/100/1000 ports capable of supporting PoE+ with four dual personality gigabit ports and four optional 10G ports ( CX4/SFP+). The ProCurve 2910al-24G-PoE+ Switch supports IEEE 802.3at for Power over Ethernet Plus and provides up to 30W per port.
The ProCurve 2910al-48G-PoE+ Switch is a managed switch with 48 10/100/1000 ports capable of supporting PoE+ with four dual personality Gigabit ports and four optional 10G ports (CX4/SFP+). The ProCurve 2910al-48G-PoE+ Switch supports IEEE 802.3at for Power over Ethernet Plus and provides up to 30W per port.
A redundant power supply is also available as an accessory.
All the switches come with ProCurve Lifetime Warranty and are available from 1 April 2009. Prices start at Rs 1,52,600.
