Wednesday, June 17, 2009:
As the global forum for free, libre and open source software (FLOSS) worldwide, the second Open World Forum will welcome all the key global players to Paris on 1 and 2 October 2009, in partnership with the Open Source Think Tank. The event will aim to cross-fertilise initiatives around the issue of 'Free, Libre and Open Software at the heart of the Digital Recovery'.
"Computing – along with green technologies – is the key driver for the growth of our economy.
|
|
Free, Libre and Open Source Software is now its essential foundation and source of innovation," commented Jean-Noël de Galzain, chairman, Program Committee, Open World Forum 2009 and CEO, Wallix.
With speakers from more than 20 countries, numerous sessions, activities and events, the Open World Forum 2009 aims to bring you FLOSS' best keynote presentations, community events and technical tracks, covering everything from high level business strategies to technical insights.
The plenary sessions will explore how open source can contribute to renewed economic growth, as a major driver for competitiveness and innovation as well as a force for social improvement and national sovereignty.
In addition, the 2009 Forum will play host to five major events: FLOSS Community Summit, bringing together decision-makers from the major communities (Apache, Eclipse, Linux Foundation, Mozilla, OW2...) to further strengthen the synergies between them and their global initiatives; Open CIO Summit enabling chief information officers and IS/IT directors from the public and private sectors to evaluate the best ways in which to capitalise on open technologies; FLOSS Competence Centers Summit, bringing together the main international competence centres and promotional centres from the field of FLOSS in Africa, Brazil, China, Europe, India, Japan and USA, amongst others; FLOSS Politics Summit, dedicated to the regions of Europe, enabling cross-fertilisation between FLOSS initiatives in these highly strategic areas; and Open Innovation Summit and an emerging technologies radar, enabling delegates to find about the latest developments taking place, and putting the most promising start-ups at the time into direct contact with larger companies and investors.
A panoramic view of key technologies, the Open Day, combined with an exhibition area, will allow organisations to evaluate the best technologies from the FLOSS world and their future directions.
The 2009 Forum will also play host to a jobs and training fair, and numerous other associated events and seminars, promoting useful cultural exchanges in key areas for the future: cloud computing, SOAs and Web 3.0, amongst others.
“We are excited to partner with the Open World Forum and host the Think Tank. As the industry's only by-invitation event for global open source business leaders to gather and discuss the opportunities and challenges facing commercial open source; the Think Tank is a perfect complimentary event to the OWF,” said Andrew Aitken, managing partner, Olliance Group and founder, Open Source Think Tank, now in its fifth year.
The forum is an open event and welcomes new conferences proposals.
