Roshni Nadar, daughter of HCL founder Shiv Nadar, has been appointed as the executive director and CEO of HCL Corporation, the holding company of HCL Technologies and HCL Infosystems. Shiv Nadar, who remains chairman of the company, has clarified that Roshni's role will be confined to just HCL Corporation and she will not be responsible for any of the operational companies in which HCL has a stake. Roshni took over in the new post from April this year.
Roshni loves to travel, enjoys yoga and is trained in classical music. Roshni returned from the US in October 2008 and has since been involved with HCL Corporation before taking over as executive director and CEO.

An MBA in social enterprise management and strategy from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Roshni has been involved with Rajiv Gandhi Foundation to promote the education of the girl child amongst dalits and muslims in backward areas of UP. She has also worked with Sky News and CNN in the production and programming functions.
Nadar, who was in Chennai along with his daughter to announce developments in their educational initiatives, told The Economic Times that HCL Technologies and HCL Infosystems are run by highly corporatised boards. "At the moment, she is responsible for the holding company, which is HCL Corporation, none of the operational companies. She runs the treasury, all the new investment decisions will be taken by her." He added that he will focus on "developing a vision for the group".
Shiv Nadar founded HCL in the mid-1970s and transformed the IT hardware company into an IT enterprise over the next three decades by constantly reinventing his company's focus. In 2008, Nadar was awarded Padma Bhushan for his efforts in IT industry.
