Thursday, July 02, 2009 Pacnet Business Solutions (China) has announced plans to further expand investments in China with its IP VPN licence from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), enabling it to offer value-added services and directly connecting its IP network infrastructure into major cities across the country.

“China continues to show solid economic growth despite the challenging economic conditions, with the World Bank recently raising its China gross domestic product forecast from 6.5 per cent to 7.2 per cent.

With our new IP VPN licence, we look forward to supporting the country’s rapid growth and the increase in demand for network connectivity through our robust and high-speed IP network, both into and across China,” said Wilfred Kwan, chief technology officer, Pacnet, during the 2009 China-Hong Kong Communication Technology Forum in Shenzhen.

Forum speakers included officials from MIIT, the Shenzhen Communication Administration and the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) Hong Kong. The forum also saw industry experts from the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, Beijing University of Posts & Telecommunications and senior industry executives discussing the latest market trends in IP VPN technology and the future of the China-Hong Kong telecommunications market.

“Through the China-Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership (CEPA) Agreement, we encourage telecommunications service providers in China and Hong Kong to work closer together through the sharing of technology, so as to build a leading communication platform that will meet the growing telecommunication requirements of China businesses,” said Li Ya Lin, spokesperson, MIIT. “We congratulate Pacnet Business Solutions (China) on being the first joint venture within the framework of CEPA to obtain an IP VPN licence and offer services across China.”

“While Shenzhen is a successful Special Economic Zone in China, it has also been challenged by the recent global recession. We look forward to the deployment of new advanced communication technologies to help enterprises explore new business opportunities and enhance their competitiveness,” said Shi Xin, Shenzhen Communication Administration spokesperson.

“Beyond delivering new IP VPN services that offer access to our next-generation EAC-C2C submarine cable system, we are also leveraging our value-added licence to offer new managed services that will enable businesses to focus on their core business while we take care of their entire network needs,” added Kwan. “Additionally, our local presence and expertise will ensure that customers are able to obtain the same world-class service quality that we deliver around the world.”

Pacnet’s IP VPN solution is offered in five classes of service and is available in usage-based billing options, offering customers a broad range of choices for their network connectivity needs. The new service in China is offered with the same service levels that are available in all Pacnet locations around the world, enabling customers to run their mission-critical applications with confidence.
