The appraisal was conducted by KPMG in accordance with the SCAMPI Methodology, and HTIPL has been assessed at the Maturity Level-5 of the Software Engineering Institute, Carnegie Mellon University, USA, and Capability Maturity Model Integrated CMMi Ver 1.2 - for the products/platforms/projects covering software engineering, and product development in the application and services business line of the Indian R&D centre.
Since its inception in 1999, Huawei Technologies India had laid focus on deploying strong processes for managing the telecom and networking software development, achieving CMM Level 4 in 2001, CMM Level 5 in 2003 and CMMi Level 5 Ver 1.1 in 2005, becoming a competent centre in cutting-edge technologies.
K K Raman, lead assessor and executive director, KPMG, stated, “Huawei Technologies India has successfully demonstrated their capability to operate at higher levels of software development maturity as seen in the business line assessed. The business line has been assessed for conformance to all the process areas up to maturity level-5 of the CMMI DEV Model based on the SCAMPI assessment. High levels of management commitment and many consistent higher maturity practices aligned to business line objectives were observed.”
Speaking on the achievement, Justin Chen, chief operating officer, Huawei Technologies India, said, “CMMI is one of the most suitable models for software product development and is derived from proven industry good practices. We have progressively built and assessed our quality system and its capability to manage the development, technical support and maintenance of products and solutions using CMMI model, and we will constantly enhance our system, providing vast benefits to the customer.”
According to the company, this was a challenging assignment for HTIPL in channelling new ideas and knowledge as the model enabled HTIPL to establish internal controls, predict the end results, and enhance its quantitative project and quality management skills, and effective practice deployment.
