Friday, July 03, 2009:
The recession is making your job search tough; and fraudsters are making it even tougher, trying to cash in on people's desperation for jobs. Wipro Technologies has warned IT job aspirants against the recruitment mailers coming in the name of the company asking them to make refundable deposits. The company says it’s an obvious fraud.

The e-mails had been sent out to job aspirants through the job portal Naukri.com, that even carry a Wipro letterhead and its logo. The mailers reportedly mention Wipro has 45 job vacancies in its facilities in Delhi, Bangalore, Noida and Pune, and ask job seekers to make a refundable deposit of Rs 5,850 in a certain bank account mentioned in the letter. Also, the mail asks the aspirants to send resumes to a Gmail ID and not to an official e-mail ID.
Reacting to media reports about the fake mailers, Pradeep Bahirwani, vice president, talent acquisition, Wipro, said that Wipro has neither in the past nor now sought any money from candidates before selection.
"Candidates are not selected without completing the requisite interview processes," says Bahirwani.
"Wipro advertises job openings only on its career website, in registered job portals, registered staffing partners and through advertisements in media carrying the Wipro logo and Wipro e-mail ID," clarifies Bahirwani.
According to media reports, Wipro, on its part, has filed a police complaint and informed the cyber crime cell about it. The software company has also spoken to one of the job portals about these fraudulent letters.
