Fascinating images in 3D - no need to wear glasses - interactive digital TV, smart and ultra energy-efficient domestic appliances, easy-to-use Internet cloud services – are these simply the visions of a far-off future? IFA TecWatch is showing these developments right now – the real-life technological potential of the consumer electronics and modern home appliances industries. IFA TecWatch presents ideas and solutions for the products and markets of tomorrow. Public and industry research facilities, universities, joint projects and internationally recognised institutions are showcasing their latest developments here.

Visitors specifically interested in innovations from the world of digital media and audiovisual communication can find exciting solutions for the major trends of tomorrow in the TecWatch hall, for example screens capable of showing 3D videos - no glasses needed - or new application concepts for an interactive television of the future which finally consigns the divisions between television, radio and the Internet to the past. The next-generation DVB standard demonstrates much greater efficiency in the use of existing frequency bands, offering greater programme diversity, high-definition viewing on all channels, and not least also fulfills a promise to society: broadband Internet access for all.
Ease of operation and smart energy management are the topics which a special show in the TecWatch hall will focus on, co-organised by Deutsche Elektro- und Informationstechnischen Handwerke (ZVEH), Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie (ZVEI), Verband der Elektrotechnik Elektronik Informationstechnik e.V. (VDE), and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.
The ZVEH “E-Haus“, a comprehensive prototype of the networked home, demonstrates how, using current technologies and solutions, in the future live will be even more comfortable and organised more ecologically. A washing machine that automatically switches on when, via an intelligent network, the local energy supplier indicates electricity prices are lowest, is simply one example of efficient energy use. Electronic mobility is also among the E-Haus topics, spectacularly highlighted by the electrically operated Tesla roadster.
IFA TecWatch offers customised content, papers and panel discussions will highlight the messages of the exhibits, and special tours for journalists and decision-makers from politics and industry will take in the main exhibits at the show. A comprehensive programme for school children will exploit the enthusiasm with which young people approach the technology of tomorrow.
