The current scale of solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing in India is small in comparison to global standards. It comprises primarily of cell and module manufacturing, with the bulk of the value addition taking place outside the country. But according to SEMI, the global industry association representing semiconductor, micro-electric and photovoltaic segment, India would soon emerge as a hub of solar PV product manufacture supporting not only the domestic market but also some of the projects in Europe and other parts of the world. “The recent announcement of National Solar Mission and other support decisions will encourage domestic companies to tap this opportunity,” The Hindu Business Line quoted Stanley T. Myers, president and CEO of SEMI, as saying.
