Thursday, April 05, 2012 Considering the amount of data that is accessed online, including business applications, office webmail and other important data transactions, data security is of utmost importance for any organisation. Compromising protected data and not complying to IRM guidelines are fears that companies often face. But what if you were told that a system could provide browser-based experience to access protected content? Well, Seclore’s FileSecure Web Connect promises to do exactly that. Vishal Gupta, CEO, Seclore talks to EFYTimes.com about the solution and more.

How many have actually adopted the Seclore FileSecure Web Connect IRM system as of now? How common is the system in India?
There are hundreds of enterprises today who are users of the technology. Overall, we are crossing 2.5 million users now. In India, the system is most commonly deployed within diversified business groups, financial services, engineering services, manufacturing and defence establishments.

FileSecure, Seclore, Vishal Gupta, CEO, Interview

What is the process of installing the system securely?
There are two parts to Seclore FileSecure. One is the Policy Server, which is a Web application and requires a validated SSL certificate. The second is a desktop agent. It is a desktop application and can run on multiple operating systems.

Many companies are now adopting the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) model. Can this system ensure safety at all levels- both office desktop, work and personal laptop, smartphone, tablet and more?
Absolutely. One of the basic value propositions of Seclore FileSecure is that security is linked to the information, irrespective of where it is and how it travels. This means that enterprises can adopt a BYOD policy and have personal devices accessing corporate data but still be able to control the data.

What kind of set-up is this best suited for?
Seclore FileSecure is very flexible and therefore there are 5-people law firms and 300,000 people diversified groups using the same system. The value drivers for the technology are highest when: Confidential information needs to be restricted to a few people within the enterprise, while they are in employment or there is a lot of external collaboration (vendors, lawyers, auditors, consultants etc) which requires confidential information to be exchanged. This collaboration may be permanent or temporary.

When it comes to bank transactions and similar financial transactions, people are still too wary and don’t mind keying in multiple passwords- infact more the need for passwords, the more secure they feel. How do you think IRM system will help change this mindset?
IRM systems put security of the data in the hands of the creator and away from the consumer/ receiver. This will help people access confidential information by identifying themselves (user/password/token) even in unsecure environments like cyber cafes, infected Home PCs, uncontrolled tablets and phones etc. The overall idea is to implement security without inconvenience.
