Ubuntu Linux 12.04 Is Here With 5 Years Support

After months of speculations, Ubuntu Linux 12.04 LTS has finally been released. Named Precise Pangolin, the long term support release will be supported for a full five years on both desktops and servers. This will make it an appealing choice for many businesses. Moreover, Ubuntu 12.04 offers a new Linux desktop for LTS users, while also providing a new and easy access to non-Linux applications- VMware, Citrix and Microsoft Remote Desktop technologies are now all supported.

Another highlight of the new operating system will be the Unity desktop interface. The Ubuntu 10.04 LTS has the GNOME 2 desktop as the default interface. On the occasion of the launch, Kate Stewart, Ubuntu release manager wrote in an official announcement: “For PC users, Ubuntu 12.04 supports laptops, desktops, and netbooks with a unified look and feel based on an updated version of the desktop shell called 'Unity,' which introduces 'Head-Up Display' search capabilities. Finding and installing software using the Ubuntu Software Center is now easier thanks to improvements in speed, search, and usability.”
The free and open source operating system is available for download from the official site, while Ubuntu 11.10 aka Oneiric Ocelot users will be upgraded automatically.
