Is Nook Tablet Coming With Windows 8?

According to a report, this will come in the form of a new subsidiary of B&N that will include all of its Nook business as well as its educational College business.

Tuesday, May 01, 2012: Remember Barnes & Noble ‘Nook’ tablet? The same tablet that was released as competition to Amazon’s Kindle Fire. Well, the news is that Microsoft has joined hands with the company by making a $300 million investment to help the company take an edge over Amazon and Apple’s e-book business.

According to a report, this will come in the form of a new subsidiary of B&N that will include all of its Nook business as well as its educational College business. Microsoft is making a $300 million investment in the subsidiary, valuing the company at $1.7 billion in exchange for around 17.6 percent equity in the subsidiary. B&N may eventually spin a new business or sell it off to Microsoft is yet to be seen.

This may also act as a catalyst to get more content on the Microsoft platform, especially e-books in order to ensure that the Windows 8 tablets can stand competition not just with the iPad but also the Kindle Fire from Amazon among other e-readers. A recent report suggested that Kindle Fire is the top seller among Android tablets. The reason being cited is not only its low price ($199) but also the fact that it has extensive and rich content, including seamless access to all of Amazon’s e-book offerings.

This may also win Microsoft developers for its Windows Phone platform. So will it be a Nook tablet running on Windows 8?
