Mozilla is showering us with exciting updates and the latest one is the Thunderbird 13 update and that too with 'Filelink' as an addition. Filelink will let you send large attachments by uploading them on an online storage service and sending link to the file instead of sending those bulky attachments directly to the recipient. This would help to avoid bounce back of e-mails. Till now, only YouSendIt service was available for large attachments.
Mozilla has partnered with the domain name and e-mail management service providers Hover.com and Gandi.net to provide the users a personalised e-mail address within the application which will be automatically configured to send and receive messages.
Besides this, overall start-up time and stability have also improved with the update. Thunderbird 13 requirements on Windows have also changed, now it will work on Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later. It is also available for Mac OS X and Linux. You can right away upgrade your system using the built-in update tool or wait for the automatic update notification.
The licensing on Thunderbird 13 has also been revised like that in Firefox. Thunderbird source and binaries are released under the Mozilla Public Licence 2.0. Feel free to consult MPL 2.0 FAQ, if you seek further information.
