RS Components, Allied Electronics Accepting General Orders For Raspberry Pi  
 
The Raspberry Pi boards from RS and Allied are available at £21.60, plus tax, shipping charges and import duty as applicable.

Wednesday, July 18, 2012 RS Components and Allied Electronics are now taking general orders for the ultra-low-cost Raspberry Pi computer. This implies that RS and Allied customers worldwide can now order multiple quantities of the Raspberry Pi Model B board, along with the associated accessories including SD cards pre-loaded with the Raspberry Pi operating system and unique cases for safer storage. You can place your order by visiting http://pi.rsdelivers.com. The duo announced that all customers will be given a forecast future delivery date when placing their order.

It is pertinent to note here that earlier customers could place their order for Raspberry Pi only from the dedicated RS and Allied online Pi Store. But now businesses, engineering professionals and educational institutions can route their Raspberry Pi order through the local RS and Allied websites.

Jo from RS says: "We’re delighted to announce that as of 08.30am BST on 16th July, RS and Allied are now taking general orders for Raspberry Pi. Orders can be placed by visiting http://pi.rsdelivers.com."

"We will now be taking volume orders for Raspberry Pi Model B, on an expected delivery lead-time of 4-6 weeks, as our order backlog improves and our production capacity continues to increase. Anyone wishing to purchase 10 or more Raspberry Pi’s should e-mail rpiquotes@element14.com for the very latest delivery information," adds Jenny from Farnell.

Introduced back in April this year, the ARM-based Linux computer took the world of computers by storm. Its popularity can be gauged from the fact that stocks were decimated within minutes when the Pi was first launched online. Though there is still a backlog of orders to fill, with the ramp-up of production (specifically at 4,000 units per day), founder Eben Upton hopes that it will soon be able to catch up with demand.

Orders can now be placed for unlimited quantities of Raspberry Pi and the associated accessories without the requirement to register or to receive an invitation to order. These orders should begin reaching customers by the end of September.

“There have been extraordinary levels of demand for Raspberry Pi since its launch earlier this year, so we have no doubt that customers worldwide will welcome the volume availability of the boards,” said Glenn Jarrett, global head--product marketing, RS. “Many interesting Raspberry Pi projects have already sprouted in the few months since we started shipping the product, and the release of unlimited quantities will open up opportunities to prospective programmers on a mass scale.”

The Raspberry Pi boards from RS and Allied are priced at £21.60, plus tax, shipping charges and import duty as applicable.
