Tablets will soon be replacing books in classrooms and coaching institutes. Of late, many popular coaching institutes launched their tablets and gave away their study material in a micro SD card, suitable for distance learning courses.

In this case, students will get a tablet when they enroll for a course and then they will have to buy the micro SD card containing the study material. All updates and exam material will be supplied online; even video lectures will be conducted along with online doubt clearing seasons.

Recently, EduBridge launched it EduTab tablet based on Android Ice Cream Sandwich. We reviewed the tablet but could not check the educational content that will come bundled with it. Here's an exclusive review of the EduTab tablet.

Inside the box :

Along with the EduTab tablet, you will get a USB cable, hands-free, charger, micro USB connector, micro SD card, user manual, and warranty card.

To start with let's have a look at the technical specifications:

Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) OS

17.8-cm (7-inch) Capacitive Touch Screen

Expandable Storage Capacity of 32 GB

Wi-Fi Enabled

Cortex A8 1 GHz Processor

1 GBDDR3 RAM

Five Point Multi-touch

The entire specification sheet can be found here.

First look and feel:

The tablet we got was black in colour. The finishing of the device was decent and it seemed to have a solid built. The device was sleek, thin and light compared to its competitors. The first look and feel was good.

Start-up and appearance:

This tablet is based on a 1GHz processor; however, it took some time to start, despite keeping the power button pressed for a while. The display quality is decent. The touch interface was smooth and I did not face much problem.

Performance:

Based on a 1 GHz processor, the tablet has 1 GB DDR 3 RAM and memory expandable up to 32 GB via TF card. The tablet's response time was good. Media files worked smooth; however, I witnessed several crashes. Overall, the performance was average.

Media:

You can connect your pen drive to watch movies and carry out other basic functions. Sound quality is not at all great. You will need to get a good quality headset to listen to music. HD video playback support was good, considering the low price point of the device. Gaming experience was OK. The tablet also supports 3D, and it worked fine, given the fact that it is an educational tablet.

Camera:

The model we received did not have a rear camera. The front camera is meant for video chatting and it's acceptable as long as you see your teacher's face while taking video lectures!

Connectivity:

It has support for Wi-Fi and external 3G dongle. We tested the device on Wi-Fi and kit worked fine with no hitches. So, this means you can stream your history lessons with ease! If you are using a 3G dongle, then the battery back-up might get affected. Before using a USB dongle, please confirm with the company representative about its compatibility with the tablet.

Battery:

The tablet is powered by a 2800 mAH Lithium ion battery. The battery backup is decent and you can afford to watch a full movie seamlessly. I found out that the device got heated within a short span of time. However, it did not affect its functioning.

Final verdict:

As I mentioned previously, we have not tested the quality of the educational content in this tablet. The technical specification and the functioning of the tablet seemed good in the price range of Rs 8,500 to 10,500. If you are satisfied with the quality of the educational content then the functioning of the tablet will not be problem.

Rating: 6.5 out of 10.
