Manav Rachna International School, Sector 14, Faridabad organized two-day regional final [Delhi, NCR] of 7th Edition Indian Robot Olympiad (IRO) 2012, themed ‘Robot connecting people’ from 3rd – 4th October at their school premises. Kumari Sharda Rathore, MLA, Chief Parliament Secretary, Government of Haryana was chief guest at the opening ceremony of the Olympiad. Mr. Apurva Kalia, VP, R&D, Cadence Design announced the winner of the Delhi – NCR Zonal round would be competing with the other 6 teams from Bhopal, Pune, Jalandhar, Bengaluru, Chennai and Mumbai on 11th & 12th October, 2012 at Manav Rachna Educational Institutions. The winners of the National Finals would compete at International Finale at World Robot Olympiad 2012 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, hosted by Ministry of Education, Malaysia.

The Indian Robot Olympiad was held in three categories - Primary School, Junior High and Senior High where more than 350 students from 75 teams from different schools of Delhi/NCR, Haryana, U.P, Rajasthan around the city convened in Manav Rachna International School. Some of the prominent schools participating are Manav Rachna International School Amity International School, Apeejay School, DPS R.K Puram, DAV, Global Gensis, Pathways etc. among others. Shri Balraj Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Faridabad was chief guest at the closing ceremony of the Olympiad.
IRO is an annual national level robotics competition for school students between the age group 9 – 19 years, which is being organised by Techtronics Education (National Organiser) since 2006 and it has evolved from single location competition to 8 location competition in 2012.
Participating teams created, designed and built Robots using LEGO Mindstorms NXT to solve pre-defined missions. Each team was provided with 1 Lego Mindstorms kit for performing Robot Construction round.
Highlighting the objective behind the event, Dr. N.C. Wadhwa, Vice Chancellor, Manav Rachna International University, said, "It's that time of year again when the school children from across the country are gripped with robotics fervour. We are happy to host the 7th edition of Indian Robot Olympiad (IRO) 2012 at our premises and pleased to see our promising students availed of this national level opportunity. By participating in the tough competition, they have expanded their horizons by understanding, designing and programming robot models to have first-hand experience of the robot world.”
Manav Rachna has given this platform to students to test their analytical, logical and creative abilities and fulfil their dream to become a Science & Technology Star. Robotics is a specialized branch of technology that deals with the design, construction, operation and application of robots and computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing.
Nishant Gupta, Grade 10th student of MRIS, Sector 14, Faridabad who participated in IRO 2012 said, “IRO competition activities was a great learning experience towards basics of Robot working, Robot Concepts and related basics of electronic Circuits. I have certainly learnt novel methods which could not have been possibly learnt on some other platform.”
