So, your Internet connection is currently unavailable? Then try sending data through your body. It has already been tested by researchers at Korea University, Seoul. They transmitted data through a person's arm at a rate of 10 megabits per second by placing two electrodes 30 cm (12") apart on their skin, reports New Scientist. "A network transmitting through the skin would cut energy needs by roughly 90 per cent," says the study's co-author Sang-Hoon Lee of Korea University.

BSNL Bags Bids For WiMAX Rural Project

BSNL has bagged bids from ZTE, Huawei and TCIL for the second phase of the WiMAX project in rural areas, reports The Economic Times. BSNL had invited bids for WiMAX Rural Tender Project-II. Some of the the bidders are Gemini Communications, ZTE, Icomm Tele, Vipula MCL, Spanco, TCIL, Huawei Telecommunications and Aster Communications.

India's union minister for environment and forests plans to launch a dedicated satellite via ISRO to monitor greenhouse gas emissions, by 2012. This is to study the impact of climate change and fallout of greenhouse gas emissions on the environment by continuous monitoring through satellite technology, says Jairam Ramesh. "Currently, Japan and the European countries have this satellite but by 2012 we will have a dedicated satellite that will monitor greenhouse gas emissions across the country and globe," he said, reports India Server.

This new service, jointly launched by BSNL and AKSH Optifibre Ltd, will provide multiplay services with high-definition content for its 35,000-plus customers in six districts of Rajasthan-Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Kota and Alwar. The FTTH network has been built on the Gigabyte Passive Optical Technology, reports The Times of India.

Remote-Controlled Street Lights On Delhi Roads

To save energy, Delhi's main civic agency, the MCD, has launched the country's first remote-controlled street lights which can be switched on and off using an Internet-enabled main server located in the heart of the city, says a SiliconIndia report. The first phase of the project has become operational and covers a distance of 101 kilometres on 52 city roads. The second phase will cover an additional 157 kilometres and 107 roads, and is scheduled to be completed this May. The total cost of the project has been pegged at over Rs 30 lakh and is being implemented by such companies as Philips Electronics, BP Project Pvt Ltd and Sweka Power-Tech Engineers Pvt Ltd. The Delhi-based firm Sweka is responsible for developing the software and related technology for the project.
