Monday, July 23, 2007:  Wipro Infotech has launched Wipro Protos -- a range of desktops which consumes up to 25 per cent less power when compared to a conventional desktop. Wipro is the first Indian OEM to market this product that is based on AMD's low-power computing solutions under the brand name 'PROTOS'.
Protos devices support the 50X15 initiative - a global initiative founded by AMD - to help enable affordable Internet access and low-power computing capability for 50 per cent of the world's population by the year 2015. With the introduction of such cost-effective devices, the challenges of digital divide will be effectively addressed.

Announcing the launch of Protos, Ashutosh Vaidya, vice president, Wipro Personal Computing, said, "Wipro has always been a pioneer in introducing specific products to the market that provide the right value proposition to businesses. Protos is another revolutionary product from the stable of Wipro Personal Computing which will cater to specific needs like low-power consumption and a small footprint. Protos is dust resistant, maintenance free and network ready. It can easily be configured with application software tailored to the needs of specific customers."

Speaking on the occasion, Alok Ohrie, managing director, AMD India, said, "AMD is committed to working closely with our partners to develop solutions which provide affordable and robust technology to empower people all over the world. The unique features of this product such as ultra portability, reliability and low-power consumption make it an ideal solution for rural and educational applications."
