Saturday, December 29, 2007:  India and Indian!
Michael Dell, chairman and chief executive officer, Dell was in India again earlier this year. He stressed India is one of the centres of the world’s technology transformation, with about 50 million people online, which is less than 5 per cent of the population. Dell also said Internet use in the country has increased 700 per cent since the year 2000. More important, he said, is for companies such as Dell to help the second billion people worldwide, many from India, to get online so that they can participate and compete in the economy today — and tomorrow.
An Indian at Adobe's helm
Adobe Systems Incorporated appointed current president and chief operating officer Shantanu Narayen as its president and chief executive officer, effective 1 December 2007. Narayen replaced Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen who will serve the remainder of his term on Adobe’s board through the Spring of 2008 and continue in a strategic advisory capacity through the end of fiscal year 2008.

Intel chief inside India
Intel chief Craig Barrett visited India to drive the Intel World Ahead Program with communities, government, academia and industry. The Intel World Ahead Program is an initiative through which Intel plans to invest $1 billion globally over the next 5 years to accelerate access to uncompromised technology across four major focus areas: accessibility, connectivity, education and content.

Handing over the reins

From Karnik to Mittal
Som Mittal will assume the office of the president of NASSCOM from January 2008. He will succeed Kiran Karnik. Mittal is presently the head of services business of Hewlett-Packard for Asia-Pacific and Japan region.

From Jones to Vishakantaiah
In the mid of October, Frank Jones, president, Intel India, turned over the reins to Dr Praveen Vishakantaiah, director, digital enterprise group, Intel India. Under Frank's leadership, Intel India has met the challenges of rapid growth and diverse operations to become an integrated site that leads in operational excellence. Intel India has developed a strong reputation for an ability to execute flawlessly and now owns significant road map deliverables across all product groups.

Navratna at BEL
Navratna defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) appointed nine new general managers. They are C Nageswara Rao, GM, components, Bangalore Complex, H S Bhatia, GM, systems, Corporate Office, J K Batheja, GM, internal audit, Corporate Office, R K Singhal, GM, Panchkula unit, Vijay Gundannavar, GM, Machilipatnam unit, Amol Newaskar, GM, export manufacturing, Bangalore Complex, R C Nautiyal, GM, Pune unit, S Ramachandran, GM, strategic planning, Corporate Office, and J Y Choudhary, CEO, BELOP, BEL (subsidiary company located at Pune).

Dell, the CEO
Michael Dell assumed the duties of chief executive officer of Dell Inc. Dell, who will retain his duties as chairman of the board, replaced Kevin Rollins who resigned from his position as CEO and as a member of the board of directors. Michael Dell has served as the chairman of the board since its founding in 1984 and as CEO until 2004.

EA Grabs Microsoft’s Gaming Knight Moore!
Peter Moore, vice president of Interactive Entertainment Business (IEB), Microsoft, quit the company and joined Electronics Arts to head its sports division. Effective 30 July 2007, Don Mattrick, a former president at Electronic Arts Inc. (EA), leads the Interactive Entertainment Business (IEB) of Microsoft, which includes overseeing the Xbox and Games for Windows businesses.

Cisco's Ex Joins D-Link
D-Link India Ltd appointed Jangoo Dalal, an industry veteran with over 20 years experience in the technology industry, as managing director and chief executive officer. K. R. Naik, the current chairman and managing director at D-Link India Ltd, will assume the role of the executive chairman and continue to lead the company's growth strategy across the region.

Stepping Down

Yahoo! Chairman, CEO Steps Down
Yahoo!'s board of directors appointed Jerry Yang, Yahoo! co-founder and long-time board member, as chief executive officer. Terry Semel, current Yahoo! chairman and CEO, assumed the position of non-executive chairman and serve as an advisor and important resource for the company's senior management team, while also working closely with the board. The board also named Susan Decker, formerly executive vice president and head of advertiser and publisher group, as president of the company.


End Of An Era: Father Of PlayStation Retires!
The father of Sony's Playstation gaming console, Ken Kutaragi, stepped down from his position of chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. He, however, took up the role of honorary chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. and now also acts as a senior technology adviser to parent Sony Corp.

Atari Chairman Steps Down
Atari announced the departure of the chairman of its Board, Bruno Bonnell. Bonnell was also chief creative officer, acting chief financial officer and director in the company. He also stepped down from his positions as the CEO and a director of Infogrames and from all his positions with subsidiaries of Infogrames.
