Friday, March 07, 2008:  Wipro's Pune Development Centre (PDC) is expected to have more than 25,000 employees in the information technology (IT) and business process outsourcing (BPO) operations within two years, bringing it at par with Bangalore Development Centre. According to Sharda Nandakumar, the new location head who took over from Jayashree Joglekar, "One reason why Pune is doing extremely well is the huge talent base. The city offers a large student population and attrition rates are also surprisingly low."
Established in the year 2000, the PDC at present employs over 8,000 employees working out of PDC-I and PDC-II. The sprawling 75-acre Wipro campus is located at the Rajiv Gandhi Info Tech Park in Hinjewadi.

Besides regular business operations, Wipro will now be entering the field of engineering design, and the new division will be based out of Pune and cater to the automobile industry. "Pune being an automotive hub will help bring us a lot of business," added Nandakumar.

At present, the PDC runs businesses such as very large scale integration (VLSI), telecom, enterprise application services, banking, insurance, securities and capital market business. Service line businesses such as e-enabling, Microsoft business unit, testing services, technology infrastructure services have been set up at Pune.

Wipro PDC is celebrating seven years of the Pune campus with a 'Yuva Habba or the Youth Fest' which is an exclusive event for campus recruits of the development centre this week. About 500 campus recruits are part of this event.
