Friday, June 27, 2008:  Telecom equipments company Nokia Siemens Networks has announced plans to set up a Rs 300 crore manufacturing facility at Oragadam near Chennai. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government to this effect in the presence of Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi.
The company will set up the plant at the Sipcot industrial estate at Oragadam, about 50 km to the west of Chennai. The investment will be made over the next three years. The project is expected to offer direct employment to 400 people. About 100 indirect jobs would also be generated, the company said.

Along with units set up by Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, the Nokia Siemens Networks’ facility will reinforce Chennai’s position as a telecom equipment manufacturing hub.
